Sunday 1/4/2015

A week has gone by in the blink of an eye.  The absolutely incredible experiences we have shared during this time are unforgettable and completely life changing.  As I sit here and think back, it is almost overwhelming what we have done and accomplished, and I would not change a thing!

Today was a pretty slow day as Dayna, Jenni, Andrew, and I were making our journey back to Rome from Florence.  Saturday night, however, we decided that we wanted to get up at 7am and go back to the hill that overlooked Florence to experience it in the day.  Unfortunately, this did not turn out as planned because when we woke up it was eerily dark.  So we proceeded to go back to sleep until 9!

As we began to pack up our things and prepare to leave, I knew I had to come to grips with leaving not only the most incredible city I have ever walked around, but the presence and company of our gracious host, Leonardo, at our hostel.  I had never experienced hostel living so I was fairly nervous.  Leonardo made our stay stress free with his excellent location, helpful advice for where to travel in the city, and impeccable service.  Such a genuine man!

After we departed the hostel, we made our way to the train station and prepared ourselves for the 4-hour train ride by purchasing some snacks!  We took our seats on the train, but the only thing we had on our minds were if we validated our tickets correctly or if we were going to have to pay the 40 euro fine.  My heart sank when I finally saw the man coming around, and it just so happened to be the same man as on our train going to Florence.  What are the chances of that!  But to our relief, we had validated the s*** out of those tickets, and it was smooth sailing from there until Rome.

When we finally made it back to Rome, we were so completely exhausted from the weekend and the trip that we got back and just relaxed.  Andrew and I decided to walk to the market to get a few things and then returned to read and do our homework.  The other crew that stayed in Rome for the weekend was off exploring and shopping over by the Spanish Steps.

Finally, when everyone returned, Carl and Michele provided us with nice sandwiches for dinner.  We all shared fun and exciting stories about our weekend adventures and finally got down to business with our College Geometry.

With our first exam coming up on Tuesday, we were focused (for a good amount of it) and ready to learn.

With an early and exciting day coming up tomorrow with our trip to the Vatican, it is time to get some shuteye!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog when you see through the eyes of Ms. Amber Jackson!

  1. Hello, Chris. Florence is one of my favorite cities, so I am very glad you enjoyed it. The Italians, as you have discovered, are not shy about dealing with enthusiastic young people, so you are not the first to deal with the water bath. Just walking around Florence, day or night is such a treat. Visiting the museums is wonderful, and hearing operatic voices tuning up for night's performance float on the air is about as romantic and enticing as a city can get. I hope in your life that you visit Florence again, and that you continue to expand your hoizons. Best wishes, Dean McKeever
