Wednesday - December 31, 2014 - Trevi Fountain and The Spanish Steps

Happy New Year's Eve!!
by Brendan

It is New Year's Eve but I wanted to say Happy New Year since I was able to celebrate it by the Colosseum in Rome.  The day started normally with breakfast and then class.  Once class was over a few of us ventured to the train station, which is about a 20 minute walk from where we are staying, to purchase tickets to Florence.  Many others had the same idea of going to Florence this weekend so the tickets were sold out.

The group then ventured downtown via the metro to meet up with the rest of the students in front of the Trevi Fountain, which unfortunately, is under repairs. Next on the walk was going into several churches which were very nice, including St. Ignatius and Santa Maria Sopra Minerva.  The latter one displays a statue, Christ Carrying the Cross, by Michelangelo, which we were able to see close up.

That night we all traveled by foot to the Colosseum, only a 25 minute walk from where we are staying.  We enjoyed the fireworks.  There were a lot of people there as well.  Since there were so many people there it was a good night for pickpockets to steal anything.  It was a very good night overall.

  1. I hope you go to see the Ecstasy of St. Theresa while you are in Rome. It is in a delightful church (I leave that up to you to discover. Explore, learn a lot of geometry, and enjoy the trip. Best wishes, Dean McKeever
